Jeremy is the founder of J. Lyons Capital, and is registered as an Investment Adviser Representative. He has been providing financial guidance to individuals since 2007. He earned the designation of Certified Retirement Planning Counselor in 2007. Jeremy started the first 6 years of his career with a Fortune 500 financial services institution until he made a decision in 2013 to become an independent investment adviser. This move to independence allowed Jeremy to develop and offer strategies he sees fit for his clients without the limitations that come from the large financial institutions.
Jeremy’s passion in the financial industry resides in understanding the inner workings of our financial system and global macroeconomics. There is no doubt this passion was an outcome of experiencing the financial crisis of 2008 from the perspective of an investment adviser. He witnessed first-hand how important money and investing can be in people’s lives. Not satisfied with the mainstream explanations for what happened, he began a quest to find out what was truly behind the 2008 financial crisis and, more importantly, to understand what risk is still embedded in our financial system. He has dedicated his career to seek this knowledge and desires to share this value with others.
Jeremy met his wife Elizabeth in the summer of 2006, and married in 2008. Elizabeth loves spending time with family and has an amazing talent for art. She received a Fine Arts degree from Iowa State University, a teaching degree from Concordia University, and was an art teacher in the Ankeny Community School District for 7 years before making a decision to be a stay-at-home mother. Recently, Elizabeth has started a flourishing business called Kids Create, a unique and interactive series of art camps for children ages 4-12. Jeremy & Elizabeth have 2 children, Lydia and Adam. Lydia has inherited her mom’s love for art, and Adam’s life is all about dinosaurs!
Until age 25, Jeremy’s passion was the rooted in the game of golf. In his home state of Wisconsin, he became 1 of only 2 golfers in the history of the state to win 3 state high school championships. In 1999, Jeremy accepted a golf scholarship to Iowa State University where he went on to become team captain, set multiple ISU records, and receive his bachelor’s degree in the School of Business. After his collegiate career, he spent the next 3 years chasing a professional golf career on various mini-tours. Although he fell short of his goal, it was an amazing experience to compete at such a high level. Outside of work, Jeremy loves spending time outdoors with his family and serving the community.
